More experiments needs to be performed
in non-homogenous strain fields to completely validate the preliminary
experiments. Further experiments are also required to study all the potentials
of the evolution of the layer-peeling method for gratings that exhibit loss. It
could even be possible to retrieve the local loss parameters by combining the
reflection and transmission responses of the grating (in this case, the OCLR
set-up has to be configured to measure the complex impulse response in
transmission).
Another important perspective is to
reconstruct the grating parameters for very strong FBGs. We have proposed a
method where the grating is placed in a non-homogeneous axial strain field (or
temperature field) and this method needs to be tested.
Important potentials of the presented
reconstruction procedure exist, for example for controlling the FBG writing
process or in the field of distributed sensing.
